On the other end of things, T1 frigates have low skill caps and require longer training for high efficiency. You can easily fly these puppies with the assurance that they’re 100% disposable. Best of all, these little frigs are cheap as dirt, running less than half a million ISK each – something you’ll make back in under 3 minutes of exploration. They’ve got nearly cruiser-sized cargo holds, allowing you to haul back extra loot or carry mobile depots/siphon units if desired. They have just enough CPU to handle expanded probe launchers, allowing you to find hidden salvage or evade/scare off potential killers. T1 frigates have a very low skill floor, and will be somewhat capable with under 3 days’ training. If you think you’ll be upgrading to Sisters of EVE ships soon, an Imicus or Magnate will be a great start. If you intend to fly a Manticore or Buzzard later on, you might as well start training Caldari frigates now and pick up a Heron. While there are some minor differences between each hull, you’re better off choosing between them based on your long-term goals. They’re also perfect for older pilots who are just getting into exploration. But that doesn’t mean they’re a bad choice. For a completely new player (under 1.5 million skill points), these will be the only real option. What I’ve learned through experience is that pretty much every option has value it’s most important that you choose the right ship for your skills, budget, and experience. If you ask the average bittervet what ship to use for exploration, you’ll probably get an answer like “T3 is the best, using anything else is a waste of time” or “T1 frig is good enough, anything else is a waste of ISK.” Keep in mind that both hulls are very versatile, although the new Incursus would be wasting a bonus if you don't active tank it.Don’t miss out! If you can get it loaded before the fight starts, then yeah you might get a few more deeps on them, but if they change ranges on you, you'll lose the reload race, and they'll get 5 seconds of free damage from Null before your Barrage loads. Especially in frigate based combat, the damage you'd do in the 10 seconds it would take to switch to optimal ammo would probably cost you the fight.

For example, every shield ship I've PvP'd in has an EM patch on it, so most of the time shooting thermal at me is more effective. If not, autocannons will end up doing somewhat more damage due to their long falloff. If you can get in range, blasters are excellent. They also reload in 5 seconds instead of autocannons' 10 seconds. How are blasters compared to autocannons in PVP? In PVE Projectiles were useful simply because you could pick the best damage type but I suspect with PVP you don't get that luxury.īlasters do more damage with more tracking, at less range and with less damage selection.
